After a long weekend at the Cradle of American Haiku gathering in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, I’m back. It was wonderful to hang out with haiku friends from the Midwest (and a few from further afield) and to meet people whose names I knew from Kingfisher and other journals, but whom I’d never met in person. Great food, engaging presentations, scenic town, and excellent company. Who could ask for a better vacation in the midst of what’s been a busy summer?
Now I’m in full-on editor mode, reading submissions and sending out replies. I’m grateful to everyone who’s already sent me poems, and to those of you who haven’t gotten around to it quite yet, you’ve only got until August 31. I know it seems like a long time from now, but already, I can feel more of a chill in the evening air than was present a week ago. Time is passing and I’m hungry for your haiku! So, send me your most authentic poems, the ones that excite you, the ones that play with language and form, the ones that bring you joy. I’d love to read them, and who knows, they might just make it into Kingfisher #6. Good luck!
Thanks for the update on Cradle. I was hoping things might change here and I could meet you, but it was not to be. Mineral Point was where I got my start so it is very special to me.
