Welcome to Mineral Point!

Happy last week of August! That means it’s the last week of Kingfisher submissions. Thank you to everyone who’s sent in submissions this month. My sincere apologies for the longer-than-usual response time. Part of the delay is due to the fact that I was recently in Mineral Point, Wisconsin for the biennial Cradle of American Haiku gathering. This is my second time attending and I had the best time hanging out with old friends and meeting new ones. I also had the honor of giving a presentation on Kingfisher called “Shiny Fishes: How Kingfisher Began and What Keeps It Flying.” I’m grateful to Julie Schwerin, Francine Banwarth, Shan Thomas, and Kelly Bull for organizing the event, and to Bill McKinney for making sure the technology ran smoothly. Also, a big shout out to the staff at Cafe 43, which handled an influx of haiku poets throughout the weekend with kindness and patience (and delicious food).

If you’ve submitted but haven’t heard back from me yet, I appreciate your patience. I will respond to every submission as swiftly as I can while giving each one the attention it deserves. And if you haven’t submitted yet, please do! Submissions close on August 31. You can find all the submission details, including how many poems to send and what I’m looking for, here: https://kingfisherjournal.com/submissions/. I look forward to reading your subtly brilliant haiku and senryu!
