It’s almost time . . .

Rock Heart by Tanya McDonald

Roses are red, violets are blue, during the month of February, I’d love to read submissions from you! That’s right, the next Kingfisher submission window opens on February 1, so get those 5–10 brilliant haiku and senryu ready to send!

I’ve updated the Orders page on the website so now you can place orders for the 2023 issues (#7 will be published in late April, and #8 in late October). You can also order copies of #2–6 while supplies last. https://kingfisherjournal.com/shop/ Not sure of your subscription status? Feel free to email me at kingfisherjournal@gmail.com to check.

In other news, I may have a work-around for my international postage issue (the issue being that it’s gotten even more expensive to mail Kingfisher overseas). Heartfelt thanks to Robin White, editor of the lovely print journal, Akitsu Quarterly, for cluing me into this considerably less expensive mailing option. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, check out Akitsu Quarterly here: http://www.wildgraces.com/Akitsu-Quarterly.html

Did you know that the hearty mailing envelopes I use for Kingfisher are recyclable? The outer material is 20% post-consumer recycled content and the padding consists of 100% recycled fibers (macerated newsprint, in case you were wondering).

One final item: in issue 6, the punctuation at the end of Peg Cherrin-Myers’ senryu looked more like a small starburst than its intended asterisk, and I apologize for not catching that peculiarity with Cochin font before it went to print. The poem should look more like this:

coming out . . .
my father’s love
with an *
Peg Cherrin-Myers

Thanks for reading! Get those submissions ready, and as ever, thank you for supporting Kingfisher and your fellow poets!
