New Submission Windows

After much consideration, particularly in regard to when other haiku journals are open to submissions, I have decided to shift Kingfisher’s two submission windows. The submission windows for 2021 are now the months of February and August. I am still overlapping with a few journals, and I apologize for that, but I’ve got a full-color spreadsheet that tells me there’s simply no way to avoid it unless I shift the dates further into spring and autumn. Spring I could manage, but autumn would conflict with the Seabeck Haiku Getaway, which I help plan and facilitate with Michael Dylan Welch. So February and August it is.

As a poet myself, I understand that this places more pressure on poets who are trying to submit to multiple journals, but may not have enough haiku to go around. In an effort to help with this, I will be changing my technique for reading and responding to submissions. I’ve always admired editors who manage to respond to submissions within 3-5 days of receipt. I’d like to be that editor for you all, so that’s my goal for 2021. I hope this will help you plan your submissions accordingly.

In the meantime, I am pleased to report that this afternoon I received a pdf proof of Kingfisher #2 from the printer, and as soon as I confirm that everything looks as it should, printing will commence.
